A/N: Double drabble.
Aliens fascinate Owen, which is probably good considering he works for Torchwood. He’s not particularly interested in where they come from, their culture, or the differences in the way they think; what he wants to learn are the inner mysteries of their bodies.
He learned human anatomy in medical school, the names of bones, internal and sensory organs, glands, muscles, how everything fits together, how it all works. But humans are all basically the same inside; there’s not much more that can be learned. Aliens, on the other hand…
Species to species, internal organs differ, they don’t all have the same parts, and even if he comes across something that looks vaguely similar to a human organ, that doesn’t necessarily mean it serves the same purpose.
Rooting about inside dead aliens, Owen’s found things he can only speculate about. While he does on the whole prefer dealing with dead things rather than living patients, it means he can’t ask them about their physiology. Not that he’d be able to with most of them anyway, even if they were sentient and still alive; the language barrier gets in the way.
It doesn’t matter. He's still earth’s leading expert on alien anatomy.
