“I thought you told me this was a shortcut.” Ianto stopped and sat down on a nearby bench to rest his aching feet; it was hot, and he felt like he’d already walked for miles.
“It should have been!” Pouting at the unfairness of everything, Jack slumped down beside Ianto, in the shade of the spreading Whisper tree. Above them the branches shifted in the hot breeze, the leaves rubbing together making the sound that gave the tree its name.
Closing his eyes against the bright sunlight, Ianto gave a weary sigh. “Well, it’s obviously not. If it was, we’d have been back at the hotel an hour ago.”
“I was only here a few years ago! I don’t understand how Burra City could have changed so much.” Jack had been so sure he knew exactly where he was going. It should have been a pleasant stroll from the municipal buildings where the trade negotiations were being held back to their hotel.
“Burra City? Jack, this is New Burra!”
“What? Are you sure?”
“Of course I’m sure! I’ve studied the maps; Burra City is on the other side of the continent! No wonder we’re lost.”
“Well, that explains a lot.”
The End
