A/N: Triple drabble.
“I fell.” That was all Cordelia knew in those first few moments. She was running back up the stairs after seeing her sort of boyfriend kissing his best friend, who’d always had a crush on him, and then something beneath her feet cracked and she fell.
It hurt, so much that the pain blinded her, even though it wasn’t her head that hurt but her side, and her heart. She’d really thought that Xander cared about her, that maybe he was worth losing her status as Sunnydale High’s most popular girl for. Now, whatever had punctured her side might as well have torn right through her heart. It felt like it had anyway.
Maybe it would be better if she just died so she wouldn’t have to deal with the betrayal. Xander was lame, and a loser, but he’d been HER loser. Catching him making out with Willow… how long had that been going on? Looking back, they’d been acting jittery around each other for a while now. How could she have been so blind?
Cordy wanted to cry, but she couldn’t, everything hurt too much and there was a numbness spreading through her body. Then there was shouting, and bright lights, and blurry faces she didn’t recognise, voices telling her she was going to be fine, but she knew that wasn’t true.
How could she be fine? Xander had cheated on her, and now because of him, even if she lived, she’d forever have an ugly scar to remind her of the worse day she’d ever experienced.
All the way to the hospital she lay in the ambulance feeling hollow inside, empty, lost. She should have dumped Xander long ago, or better yet, never gone out with him in the first place. She never wanted to see him again.
