Double Drabble: Bulgy

Summary: With the baby bump getting ever bigger, Jack no longer feels like himself.

A/N: Double drabble.
 


 

Jack gazed woefully down at his swollen belly; he looked like he’d swallowed a beachball, or something else large and round, and he could never decide whether the elastic waist of his trousers should be above or below his baby bulge. Above tended to be constricting after a few minutes, especially if he was sitting down, but below made him feel like his pants were falling down.

 
He sighed. Nothing was truly comfortable anymore. T-shirts rode up, leaving the bump uncovered, shirts wouldn’t button around it, and sweaters made him too hot. He’d long since had to give up wearing his normal clothes, which had been bad enough, but now even his faithful coat had been sidelined, so on top of everything else, he was suffering an identity crisis. How could he still be Captain Jack without his trademark greatcoat? His bottom lip wobbled.

 
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Ianto was right there, taking his hands and squeezing them.
 

“I don’t feel like me anymore. I don’t even LOOK like me! I’m all bulgy.”
 

“You look gorgeous, incredibly sexy,” Ianto assured him.
 

“You really mean that?”
 

“Of course I do. You always look incredibly sexy, whether you’re pregnant or not.”
 

“Thank you.”

Oof, I feel for Jack. Haven't been in the exact sitch but I have had times where I was enough bulky to not fit my clothes.

...I do feel a lil bit strange asking about how Jack got this way though, considering the world of Torchwood/Doctor Who. I hope it is okay to ask out of curiosity.

It's kind of canon that Jack can get pregnant, in one of the earliest episodes he made a quip about contraceptives in the rain, and never getting pregnant again. Jack's from three thousand years in the future, so the assumption is that male pregnancy being possible is either through evolution and inter-breeding with aliens, or due to genetic engineering. Either is plausible, in my opinion.

So since I've had Jack marry Ianto, this pregnancy was at least deliberate. Mostly. Not sure it was specifically planned, but they're happy about it. In one of my Torchwood 'verses, they eventually have four children, three girls and a boy, in another they have a baby boy... I haven't decided which 'verse this one belongs to, kind of left that open.

If you mean Torchwood lore then.. yeah, this is a bit new to me. That being said, that is a pretty neat thing. A little strange, but then again the Doctor Who / Torchwood is pretty damn weird as is, lol.

I guess they don't have paternity clothes in the future though. :( Or Jack has none.

Canon is basically what is fact in the shows, so more than lore, in this case it's part of the script. Torchwood is really the only fandom where I can easily accept male pregnancy, because Jack's from the future, and alien tech can do anything 😜 I even made Ianto pregnant in one fic, thanks to an accident with alien tech. If I can imagine it, alien tech can do it, that's my Torchwood writing motto. I've turned Ianto into so many things, including a chipmunk, turned Jack into a starfish, and Owen into an alien slug... I'll give practically anything a go. Getting Jack pregnant is pretty tame for me 🤣

Maybe in the future they do, but not in the current time, so Ianto is doing his best to provide, but even extra large t-shirts and track pants can only do so much. Maybe by the next pregnancy they will have had the Doctor nip to the future and bring back some paternity wear.

Sounds like you have a really good creative grasp on interpreting the real stuff from the shows, though :O

You never know, maybe one day I'll write it.

One of the reasons I love writing Torchwood so much is that anything can be made plausible if you just treat it seriously. The crackiest ideas can be made to work. Most of what I write for Torchwood is humour. I can do angst, but humour and fluff come more easily.

Yeah, Jack isn't enjoying any of this, but he'll be okay once the baby arrives and he can get back to looking and feeling like himself.
