All Dee wanted was to salvage something from Christmas Eve, since he and Ryo had both wound up working; Ryo because the idiot had volunteered, and Dee because Ryo had shot all his romantic plans to hell by deciding to work instead of spending the evening with him. Okay, so they weren’t dating. Ryo kept insisting he wasn’t even interested, that he was completely straight, not into guys at all, but that didn’t mean Dee was gonna give up. No one protested that much unless they were trying to convince themselves as much as anyone else. So anyway, here he was, with a bottle of champagne and a lovingly decorated mini tree, because he knew his partner didn’t have any Christmas decorations up, and what did he find when he tracked Ryo down to his bedroom?
Ryo was slumped on his bed, looking thoroughly depressed, and no one should look that sad on Christmas, especially not the man Dee was seriously falling in love with. But although he brightened noticeably when Dee came in, that didn’t last long; there was a very suspicious sheen to Ryo’s dark eyes, and all Dee could think was, ‘Ack! Don’t cry!’ because tears were something he never knew how to deal with, and now he couldn’t help wondering if he’d done something wrong. Surely not even Ryo would cry for no reason… Okay, sure, he was more in touch with his emotions than Dee was, but still…
Turned out he was crying because Dee had made him happy, and that was never gonna make sense to Dee; tears were for sad stuff, and pain. On the plus side, at least it wasn’t because Dee had screwed up, and he supposed happy tears were a whole lot better than the other kind. So even though he still felt completely out of his depth, Dee did the only thing he could think to do. He leaned in and licked those salty tears from Ryo’s face, kissed them away, and thought that maybe for once in his tireless pursuit of his partner, he’d finally done something right.
The End

Date: 2025-12-23 08:19 pm (UTC)I like the detail of Dee pointing out that Ryo's putting on a show more for himself than anything else. Despite the fact he's telling on himself in this scene: that Dee has become his person, evem if he won't admit it.

Date: 2025-12-23 09:39 pm (UTC)Dee is such a wimp when it comes to tears, and I love the way he immediately worries that he might to blame. He doesn't know Ryo's backstory at this point, I suppose it's not something Ryo talks about.
I keep all 7 volumes in my desk for easy access, and I have so many pages bookmarked so I can find what I want quickly when I'm writing.
Thank you!
