Suit days meant wearing a necktie, which… Well. You got used to it. Ryo wasn’t much of a tie-wearer, but as a detective, it was expected, and when testifying in court, it was essential. It showed respect for the law, and the presiding judge. Showing up looking like something the cat had dragged in could get a man cited for contempt, and the lack of a suitably understated tie was almost as bad.
This tie was a little on the bold side for court, but it was the plainest one Ryo had at present. The dry cleaners had lost one of his plain ties, and the other one…
“That’s rather a daring choice of attire for my courtroom, don’t you think, Detective Maclean?”
“Yes, I know. I apologise, your honor,” Ryo said, as calmly as he could. “Last week I had to use the tie I usually wear to court as a tourniquet to save a gunshot victim’s life, and unfortunately no one seems to be selling anything suitable just now, all the shops have in my price range are novelty Christmas designs. I ordered some plain ties online, but they haven’t arrived yet.” He shrugged. “Christmas post.”
“I see.”
