Jack stood in the derelict building where Johnson had set up her base of operations, feeling dazed and exhausted. So much had happened in the past few days, since the children had first started chanting. He and the ragged remains of his team, plus Rhys, had hardly been allowed any chance to catch their breath, but despite all the odds being against them, they’d succeeded in destroying not only the 456’s envoy, but their ship as well. He still wasn’t entirely sure how.
Two strong arms wrapped around him from behind, and he leaned back into Ianto’s embrace, thankful his lover had somehow come through the madness in one piece. After a moment, he turned in Ianto’s embrace to return the hug.
“We did it. I don’t know how, but we did it.”
“Good old Torchwood ingenuity, that’s how,” Ianto replied, his voice slightly muffled against Jack’s shoulder. “Might’ve been simpler if the government hadn’t been trying to kill us, but we don’t let little things like that get in our way. We just get on with the job.”
Jack chuckled weakly. “Yes we do,” he agreed. “And you, Mister Jones, can always be counted on. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
