“A day trip?” Ianto sounded dubious. “I’m sure you mean well, Jack, but this is Torchwood, not a nursery, even if there are times you lot behave like pre-schoolers. We have work to do; we can’t just take time off whenever we want to for a pleasure jaunt.”
“The Rift’s quiet, and Tosh says it should stay that way for a few days,” Jack insisted.
“Should. That’s not an ironclad guarantee.”
“And it’s not just for pleasure. There’ve been sightings of strange lights. We’ll go out there, set up some remote monitoring equipment, have a look around, enjoy a nice picnic, and that’s that. Just a nice, relaxing day out. We all deserve that, don’t we?”
Ianto sighed, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand. “I remember the last time we went on a trip like this. ‘We’ll just take a look around,’ you said. ‘Make sure it’s not aliens.’ We ended up being taken prisoner by a bunch of inbred cannibals! I was tenderised, and they were going to cut my throat in that abattoir they called a kitchen!”
“That won’t happen this time, I promise. No disappearances, just some weird lights.”
“It’s still a bad idea.”
