A/N: Double drabble.
An unexpected chill ran down Londo’s spine. Always, in the past, the Centauri Royal Palace had been a place of safety, somewhere he felt he belonged, without question. Even when Cartagia had been Emperor, there’d still been a welcome familiarity in its opulence and grandeur, a kind of changelessness, even a promise that the Centauri would someday rise once more to their former power and glory.
Now, however, even though the palace looked exactly as it always did, even smelled the same, of expensive perfumes, spices, incense, and the finest aged Brivari, it felt somehow subtly wrong. There was a coldness he’d never felt there before, a chill seeping from the shadows that felt like icy fingers trailing down his back. Not in a physical sense, but it was nonetheless real, and disturbing.
The attempt on his life hardly even seemed surprising, given the atmosphere that pervaded every corridor, every chamber, of the greatest monument to Centauri superiority that had ever been erected. Separated from G’Kar, unable to count on his bodyguard for protection, Londo had been ready to fight for his life, only to be saved by someone he never saw. Somehow, that only served to deepen his disquiet.
