They’d had a great evening. Dee and Ryo had invited their friends over to watch basketball; there’d been plenty of snacks, the beer had flowed freely, Dee’s team had won, and everyone had been in high spirits. As their friends got ready to leave Dee was already talking about doing it all again, maybe next week.


Ryo didn’t want to curb Dee’s enjoyment, and honestly he was happy to hang out with their friends; it had been fun, but their apartment looked like a bomb had hit it. How could a handful of people make such a mess?


Tired though he was, Ryo started collecting empty plates and glasses, taking them to the kitchen. He would have liked to just crawl into bed, but he couldn’t leave the place so untidy. He knew he’d never sleep, he’d just keep thinking about everything he hadn’t done yet.


“What d’you think you’re doin’?” asked Dee, coming back in after seeing their friends into taxis.


“Cleaning up. What does it look like?”


“Guess there’s no point suggestin’ you leave all this until mornin’, is there?”


Ryo flashed him a look.


“Yeah, thought not. Okay, you load the dishwasher, I’ll get the vacuum cleaner.”
