A/N: Triple drabble and a half, 350 words.
 


 
Dee smiled to himself, gunning the Harley’s engine and zooming down the highway, heading out of the city. Maybe he should’ve applied to Highway Patrol after all, zipping through traffic, ticketing speeding drivers, assisting with breakdown emergencies, first on the scene at accidents… Then again, while it was a pleasure to be out riding his bike on a day like this, it wouldn’t be anywhere near as much fun in pouring rain or snow, constantly having to watch for ice.

 
Besides, when he’d entered the academy, all he’d wanted was to make detective, take Jess’s place and do a better job, be an honest cop instead of going on the take like so many did. Plus, of course, if he hadn’t followed the career path he’d taken, he never would have met the man currently sitting behind him, arms around him, leaning into the bends along with him like they and the Harley were one single organism.
 

Dee had never felt so completely in tune with anyone, to the point that they could finish each other’s sentences, or just look at each other and know they were both thinking the same thing. Even this morning, on their day off, not having made any plans, they’d looked out the window, seen how beautiful the weather was, and turned to each other, grinning.
 

“After breakfast, I’ll pack the travel cooler,” Ryo had said. It was a small one that fitted easily on the back of the bike.

 
“While you’re doin’ that, I’ll check the tires and oil.”
 

Just like that, the plan had been made, without either of them specifically mentioning the bike, and now here they were, zooming along, without a care in the world, helmets and safety gear on over jeans and t-shirts, cooled by the air rushing past.

 
It didn’t matter where they were going, although wherever it was, they were sure to enjoy themselves. Right now, all that mattered was being out on the open road, together, getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. They might even make it all the way to the Catskills…
