Rainbows and Memories

It's four years today, almost to the minute, since my mum passed away, so I was feeling down, but then I saw this...






Mum sent me a beautiful rainbow to cheer me up! It's difficult to see, but it's a double rainbow. We always stopped whatever we were doing to look at rainbows whenever one appeared so this one really felt like a message from above =)

I know what to look for, there's a quality to the light here, combined with rain on my window, that tells me there might be a rainbow, so I went to look out of mum's bedroom window and there it was! It just felt like a message from mum, and I needed that.

To make it worse, it's the day after my birthday, so I have the memory of getting a phone call late at night on my birthday and spending the rest of the night and most of the following day at the hospital. Not happy memories.

Oh no! Horrible timing. Like when someone passes at Christmas. Your birthday will never feel the same. I hope at least you have amazing memories of her.

It does make it difficult to have any good feelings about my birthday. It was so unexpected too. When she went into hospital 5 days before they said she probably had a mild virus. I wasn't expecting to lose her at all, I figured she'd be home in a few days.

I do, because we lived together my entire life in the house I was born in, so everywhere I look now I have memories. Not all of them are good, but it feels like she's still here in a way. I know she's okay now.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's so hard when you think everything will be fine and they take a turn for the worse.

The house reminders are a good and a not so good thing at the same time. Comforting but painful too. I hope you find peace.

Thank you. I'm getting there slowly, I think it's getting easier, but I doubt I'll ever stop missing her.

Thank you, so do I. It just still feels weird without her. Even now, I still talk to her.

I am so, so sorry about forgetting your birthday. Even with the reminders on LJ, it totally slipped my mind! I feel awful about it.

I do have a birthday card for you. It's going to come late, though, unfortunately; the weather has been so OMGcrazy lately that it hasn't been safe to get out and buy stamps. :-/

I hope it was a fantastic day; you are awesome, and you deserve to have had a great birthday. *huggggggggggggg*

It was a pretty rough day really, what with today being the anniversary of mum's death. Had a couple of cards in the post, but that was it until my friend showed up with flowers and a cake. Maybe I should reschedule my birthday to a happier day, one that doesn't remind me of things I don't want to think about. I'd still be on my own though, can't change that.

Stay safe in the crazy weather! Sometimes it's best just to stay in until it settles into something manageable!

I wish there was a way to guarantee that things like that wouldn't happen so close to special occasions. :( A day that should be happy shouldn't have to have such sad memories connected to it. <3

Yeah, California's getting pretty heavily hit; it's the wildest winter we've had in years. We've had two tornadoes (luckily, not nearby), and it's somehow managed to snow everywhere in the state but nearby, though there's a chance of it hitting locally, as cold as it's been. And people out here just don't know how to drive in this kind of weather.

Yeah, I'm just thankful mum held on for one poor day so she didn't pass on my birthday, which would have been worse.

Yikes, tornadoes! Even if they weren't close, that has to be scary.

A lot of Britain has had snow, but this year it missed us almost completely. One morning I woke to a tiny bit on the lawn, and another day a few powdery flakes fell, but that was it.

I imagine anywhere not used to such weather people don't know how to drive in it. Makes it very unsafe for careful drivers to be on the road amongst the idiots. Even here people drive too fast in poor visibility and icy conditions, then wonder why they crash. You and your mum just stay home as much as you can when it's nasty out.
