It was late, almost midnight, and Ryo had been at Dee’s place all evening for a brainstorming session on their latest case. They’d been so engrossed that neither man had noticed the time until Dee, yawning and stretching, had pushed back from the table where they had the crime scene photos and evidence reports spread out, intending to refill their coffee mugs.

 
“Damn, have you seen the time? Where’d the evenin’ go?”
 

Ryo checked his watch. “Midnight? I should’ve been home hours ago!” Then he relaxed a little. “At least Bikky’s not home alone. One of his friends is having a sleepover.”

 
“In that case, why don’t ya just crash here tonight?”
 

“I’m tired, Dee; I need to get some sleep.”
 

“It’ll take ya a good half hour to get home, probably be an hour at least before ya get to bed, when ya could be tucked up snug and warm here inside fifteen minutes. C’mon, babe, no strings attached, I swear. We could both do with a good night’s sleep.”
 

“No pouncing or wandering hands? You promise?”
 

“Cross my heart. Bed and sleep, preferably in that order.”
 

“Well, okay then. Thanks, Dee.”
 

Pouncing, Dee decided, could wait until morning.
