Dee was laughing as he pulled his car up behind the unmarked police vehicle Ted and Marty had been assigned for their shift. He wandered unhurriedly around to the driver’s side of the nondescript dark blue sedan, and bent over to grin at his friends through the open window.
“What I wanna know is how two seasoned detectives managed to run outta gas less than two hours into their shift.”
“He, don’t you go blamin’ us,” Marty grumbled, leaning over from the passenger side. “Accordin’ to the gauge, we should still have a good half a tank. Frickin’ thing must be faulty, and the motor pool didn’t notice.”
“Maybe you guys just drove off in the wrong car this mornin’. Ya ever think of that?”
“The keys we were given fit this one, so even if it’s the wrong car, that still don’t make it our fault.”
“You just keep tellin’ yourselves that.” Dee was openly smirking.
“At least tell us you came out here to do more than laugh at us.” Ted glared at his old friend.
“Yep! Ryo’s just gettin’ the gas can. Pop the cap and then you’ll be okay to drive to the nearest gas station.”
The End
