Dear Sarah Jane,

 
I miss you. I miss your company, your insight, your friendship. I miss hearing your voice and seeing your smile.
 

I’m sorry for leaving you behind, but at the same time, I still think it was the right thing to do. You deserve a normal life among your own people, a home and perhaps a family, things you would never have travelling with me. I hope you’ll find them now, and that someday you’ll forgive me. I’ve never been good at goodbyes.

 
The Doctor knew he’d never send the letter, but he’d needed to write it anyway.
