The Doctor had warned Clara in advance that the people of this world were fearsome warriors, and easily offended.

 
“Don’t laugh at them,” he’d said. “You don’t want to upset them. They get very nasty when they’re upset.”
 

Well, keeping a straight face was easier said than done; the fearsome warriors were less than two feet tall, pale yellow, round, and fluffy. They looked as threatening as the average dust bunny, and just about as insubstantial.

 
They carried barbed spears though, and as they spoke with the Doctor they bared their viciously sharp teeth.
 

Outward appearances could be very deceptive.
