“You know,” Buffy said coyly as February the fourteenth drew steadily closer, “chocolate is a time-honored Valentine’s Day tradition.” When it came to Angel, heavy hints were sometimes required. Not that he wasn’t romantic, because he was, it was just that being several centuries old, he could be a little out of step with current trends.

 
“Chocolate.” Angel gazed at her with a slightly puzzled expression. “Why?”
 

“Because it tastes good? Unless you think eating a bunch of chocolate would make me fat, or spotty.” Hello, teenage insecurities. Just what Buffy didn’t need.

 
“No, of course not, but… I thought it was flowers, maybe jewellery…” Angel trailed off.
 

“Also good, non-fattening choices,” Buffy affirmed.
 

“You’re not fat; you’re just right,” Angel assured her. “Beautiful.”
 

Buffy found herself blushing. “Just what a girl likes to hear. Thank you.” She leaned in to kiss Angel.
 

“So, chocolate?” Angel said when she drew back.
 

“Did you not have chocolate back before you were…?”
 

“Not as you know it.”

 
“Wow.” Buffy couldn’t imagine a world without chocolate.
 

“Any particular kind?”

 
Buffy leaned in for another kiss. “Surprise me.”
 

“I can do that.”
 

If Buffy wanted chocolate, Angel would get the best he could find.
