B5 Double Drabble: Welcome Sight

Summary: Delenn arrives just in time to save Babylon 5.

A/N: Double drabble and a half, 250 words.
 


 

John Sheridan had seen many amazing, even awe-inspiring sights in his life, from the breathtaking scenic beauty that still existed on earth to extraordinary and unfathomable alien races, and even inexplicable wonders existing in the depths of the space station under his command. But never had any sight affected him more deeply than the one he now witnessed.
 

Babylon 5 was outnumbered, outgunned, in a hopeless position, with only two choices: to surrender, or to be destroyed, and right when all had seemed lost, she’d arrived. Delenn, riding to the rescue like a Valkyrie from Norse mythology, leading a fleet of three Minbari WarCruisers.
 

They came out of hyperspace practically on top of the station, the magnificent, deadly vessels ready to defend the station and everyone on board, regardless of race, and just like that, the tide of battle turned.
 

The captains of the Earth Force Destroyers, realising they were no match for the Minbari ships, followed Delenn’s advice to be somewhere else, turning with surprising grace and entering hyperspace. Sheridan stood for a moment, exhausted, before ordering all ships back to base.

 
His heart still pounded; from adrenaline or sheer exaltation, he wasn’t sure. All he knew was that the sight of Delenn’s face on the screens, focussed and implacable as she issued her ultimatum, had been the single most beautiful, not to mention welcome, sight he had ever seen. He would never forget the way his spirits had soared, knowing all was not yet lost. They would survive.

Severed Dreams, halfway through season 3. It's such a dramatic moment, with the station under siege, and they're losing badly despite having a couple of Earth Force ships on their side... Then Delenn arrives. I cheered the first time I watched the episode, back then of course no one knew what would happen. It was so uplifting =D

Some things I only watch once, but B5 I can watch over and over and never get tired of it. The actors are so amazing.

yes, I'm amazed there weren't more spin offs, series, more attention given to it. I think the Star Trek fandom was too big and overwhelmed the B5 fandom however. I've met quite a few Trekkies who despise B5.

I will never understand that attitude. B5 never tried to compete with Star Trek, it was a completely different animal. I love both, but I will admit I find B5 more believable in many ways. Star Trek is very idealistic, and humans basically suck, sadly it's hard to imagine a world where we become as enlightened as the Star Trek universe describes. B5 seems more and more relevant, considering America's current situation.

People are SO competitive these days, everything has to be compared, unfortunately. Very tiring 🙄

Yes that's why I liked B5 as well. It's far more realistic: humans are still as awful in the future as they are today. Star Trek is more like a fantasy, maybe it reassures people more or something?

I miss the olden days when everyone just enjoyed what they enjoyed and didn't way something's worth against everything else.

I like the thought of the Star Trek universe, I just can't see it ever becoming a reality because humans are the way they are *sigh* I also loved B5's story arc. There is so much in there that you only really notice on re-watching - foreshadowing, little details that seem insignificant but turn out to be important... I grew up with the original Star Trek, it will always have a special place in my heart, but B5 was the show I never knew I needed in my life. Even one year when I was in hospital awaiting surgery, I slipped into the TV room late at night so I didn't have to miss an episode! I wouldn't have missed it, my pen pal at the time videoed it for me and shoved it in the post, but I wanted to see it!

yes, the world has definitely got more competitive over the years. I still can't believe how competitive the mothers in my mummy and baby group were, comparing how their babies were developing, jeez! Just because my daughter didn't walk early, she was mocked.

Yes, Star Trek is comforting, B5 is not. But that's life! It's difficult and problematic, it won't ever be like Star Trek, will it.

They would have been so harsh with me! I was two before I walked. Weak ankles. As soon as I was given a little pair of red wellies, I was up and walking, but before that, I couldn't.

Yes, exactly. I don't think it will, but we can still hope that someday equality will win and we'll be a kinder and better people, caring about each other and the environment.

They were nasty, bitchy women, I didn't stay long in that group. Awww, little red wellies, how cute!

Yes, I hope the human race evolves to be better, one day...I thought we were going that way, but we seem to be devolving...

I don't really remember my first pair, but I have photos of an older me in wellies and I seem to remember them being red too.

I've noticed. It seems harsh, but I find myself glad my mum didn't live to see the way things are going. I don't watch the news, it's too depressing, but I keep up to date on the major events online and... it's not encouraging. The world is under the thumbs of the people who care the least for the environment, the people, and our ability to survive. It's all about money and power. They can't see beyond that, and they don't want to.

Normally I would avoid them…but I’d just had a baby, and my body, mind and whole world had turned upside down, I didn’t have any local friends or relatives. So I was basically stuck with other people who’d also just had babies, desperately clinging on to anyone who can help or give advice. But I'm glad I found another group of mums.

I totally agree with what you say about the world. It’s not looking good at all for humanity.

I think you're right, we're all just putting one foot in front of the other, getting through it aren't we...

With the world as it is, nice people need the support of other nice people, there's strength in numbers.

We just keep going, one step at a time, because giving up isn't an option.
