Ianto had never exactly expected alien plants to be the same as earth plants, any more than he’d expected sentient aliens to resemble people, but this was still a bit out of the ordinary, even for him.
The plant cheerily waved a broad, lobed leaf at him. “Allo!” it greeted.
“Um, hello.”
“Allo!” the plant repeated. “Where am, plis?”
“You’re in Cardiff.”
“Where dat?”
“Wales, in the United Kingdom, on earth.”
“Eart?”
“Close enough.”
“Not close. Am los’.”
“Ah, well, that happens more than you might think. There’s a Rift in time and space, so… Well, people and things drop in all the time. Sorry.”
The plant shrugged. “S’okay. Not bad place. Nice rain.”
“I suppose, if you like that sort of thing. Which I imagine you would, being a plant.”
“Yis. Rain gud.”
“Unfortunately, you can’t stay here.”
“Why dis?”
“Earth plants don’t talk, for one thing. Or move by themselves.”
“Sad.”
“I agree. You wouldn’t be safe here, but don’t worry, we’ll do our best to send you home. You’ll have to come with me though.”
“Where go?”
“A safer place. Then we’ll contact a friend to help you get home.
The plant nodded. “Me go with.”
“Good.”
