Summary: The Doctor can never hope to see everything.

He’d already lived more than a thousand years, visited at least as many worlds, and yet the Doctor still felt that he’d barely seen anything. For every planet he set foot upon there were a thousand he’d never even heard of, and while many of those were probably uninhabited, life having never evolved on them or simply been wiped out by one disaster or another, there must still be many civilised worlds for him to explore.
 

But for all his longevity, he wasn’t immortal. There was much in the universe he’d never get to see, even in a thousand lifetimes.

Well, he just regenerates into a new version of himself, so who knows how long he'll keep going?
