The perception filter Tosh had created for Herman was perfect. After some discussion among the team, and a lot of research into the larger dog breeds, because they’d wanted something that would be imposing enough to discourage people from wanting to pet him on walks, they’d decided to disguise the dragon as a black Tibetan Mastiff.
The bulk of the dog’s body was ideal for the solidly built dragon, whose wings were too small to ever allow him to take to the air, even if he hadn’t been too heavy to fly. Once the collar, with its built-in technology, was fitted around Herman’s neck, all anyone would see was the big, black dog, two and a half feet tall at the shoulder, and weighing almost as much as his ‘owner’.
Nevertheless, the first time Jack took Herman walkies in daylight, Ianto went with them, just to make sure there’d be no unanticipated problems. Herman behaved remarkably well, thanks to the careful training Jack had finally done, teaching him to walk to heel when they were out. Ianto had to admit he was impressed.
Jack beamed. “Maybe we could take him Weevil hunting with us!”
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”
