A/N: Double drabble. Never expected to find myself writing this. RIP, Nicholas Brendan.
They were scattered around the world when it happened, but even so, in less than twenty-four hours, they all knew. Not just Buffy, Willow, Dawn, Faith, and Giles, but all of the potentials, Spike, Angel… everyone who’d ever known him.
Xander had fallen in battle.
They might not have been as close as they once were, their lives had separated over the years, and they hadn’t kept in touch as much as they perhaps should have. It was easy to simply say they’d been busy, life had gotten in the way, all the concerns of adulthood, but still… it hurt that they hadn’t been there at the end. Maybe if they had been… But it was useless to think that way.
It drew them together as few things could. They came from every continent to pay their respects to one of their own, a founder member of the Scoobies, someone who’d grown up in Sunnydale, on the Hellmouth, someone who’d been among Buffy’s closest friends almost from the beginning. How could they not? He’d been part of their lives for so long.
No one lived forever, but it was too soon, he’d been too young…
Rest in peace, Alexander Harris.
