They’d died at the hands of Apophis and his Jaffa; they were fairly certain of that. They remembered being hit with staff blasts, which had been beyond painful, so waking up was a bit… unexpected.

Their hosts were also on the unexpected side. Sort of smallish, wild-haired, somehow primitive in appearance, and apparently non-technological, they at least appeared friendly, even welcoming, and not the least bit perturbed at dead people returning to life.

Jack, Sam, and Daniel were offered food, fruit, which it would have been rude to refuse, and the strange people smiled benevolently at the three members of SG-1, not responding to any of their questions at first. When they finally did, it was in the team’s own language, which was another unexpected surprise. Seemed like it was a day for those.

For a seemingly primitive people, they were fast learners, obviously intelligent, and just as obviously peaceful, which made O’Neill fear for their safety. If Apophis caught them, he wouldn’t be anywhere near as kind as the members of SG-1. But the Nox, as they were called, refused all the humans’ help, because… Well, appearances could be deceptive.

These strange, small, innocent people, with the flowers and leaves entwined in their unruly manes of hair, were far more advanced than humans, more advanced even than the Goa’uld, who stole the technology they used. The Nox surely had to be among the most advanced races in the universe. Not only had they brought SG-1 back from the dead, but they had vast, floating cities, made invisible by… Was it technology, or the mental abilities of the Nox themselves? It was impossible to know, and asking somehow didn’t seem polite.

The Nox looked at the humans as if they were children in need of guidance. They were probably right.

Humans, at least in mass, need guidance for sure.
