The last time Buffy had felt this weak was when she’d caught the flu, back when Angel had been soulless. Then, he’d been the enemy, and he’d tried to take advantage of her weakened state. But this was different. She felt fine, there was no trace of fever, no aches and pains, as far as she could tell there was nothing wrong with her, except that her Slayer strength seemed to be draining away a little more every day.
She couldn’t understand it; why was it happening? Was she changing? Had some power suddenly decided she was no longer worthy of being the Slayer? Was it because of Angel? But if that was the case, wouldn’t she have lost her powers after she slept with him? It didn’t make sense for it to be happening a year later.
Angel had no answers for her either, but he remained as sweet and supportive as ever, and never had she needed him more. Having his strength to lean on made her feel a little less helpless. She knew she could count on him to protect her, if necessary, but she hoped he wouldn’t have to.
Maybe it was just a temporary thing…
