I made them using a macrame design for a plant pot hanger, but used leftover wool and curtain rings, with bangles or twigs as perches. I made this lot quite a while ago, but I just found them again and stuck their googly eyes in place. They do all have two eyes, I just found it impossible to photograph them so that they showed!
From the tops of their heads to the ends of their tails, they measure about 8 inches, the hanging cords are around 4 inches, so altogether they're about a foot long. I have one hanging on the rear view mirror in my car as a car mascot and another attached to my rucksack. From start to finish, it takes about a day to make one - I've made dozens, but the rest are in storage at the moment, though I've got everything I need to make a few so I have something to do when the workmen are busy and I have to stay out of the way!

Date: 2011-03-26 07:56 pm (UTC)When I do a car boot or craft fair, I charge the princely sum of £1 - after all, they're only the leftovers of my knitting wool and some curtain rings! Even at that price I've only ever sold a dozen or so. When I was in hospital once, I sold the one I was making to the lady in the next bed! I seem to do better that way than at craft fairs lol!
They're fun to make, but a bit fiddly when it comes to sewing on the eye rings - that's the hardest part, I usually stab myself with the needle a few times! I got tired of making things in jute, it's so expensive and hard on the hands, but I like macrame and I loved the owl plant pot hangers in the macrame book I'd got, so I thought I'd try a smaller version. The first ones I made were all browns and greys until I thought, why not use up oddments of wool and make them in pretty colours? Now anything goes, as long as the colours look good together. Some are in as many as 28 different colours, but most are only 2 colour.
