“Nothin’ better than a day at the beach,” Dee said, enjoying the salt spray on his skin as he and Ryo strolled along the sand at the water’s edge, barefoot, pants rolled up, and carrying their shoes.
“Sure there is,” Ryo told his lover. “One day at the beach isn’t much. A week would be better. Or two weeks.”
“Okay, sure, but right now we’ll haveta make do with a day.”
They’d been fortunate enough that this week their day off was midweek instead of at the weekend, and better yet, it coincided with an unseasonally hot, dry, spring day, all bright sunshine and blue skies, with a light breeze to take the edge off the heat.
Despite there being chores waiting for them at home, heading for the beach had seemed the only possible plan. Chores would just have to wait a while longer. Maybe they could be done in the evenings if leaving them until their next day off wasn’t an option.
So here they were, with surprisingly few people around, eating ice cream while wavelets lapped around their feet and ankles. Tomorrow they’d be back at work, but for today they were on vacation, and having fun.
