Summary: Jack doesn’t care what most people think of him.

“It’s that bloody Yank! Swanning around in that fancy coat like he owns the place!”
Jack heard the annoyed mutterings as he led his team into the Millennium Stadium, scene of the latest disturbance to require Torchwood’s attention, but he didn’t react. It wasn’t news to him that many of Cardiff’s residents disliked both him and the organisation of which he’d been leader since the millennium.

 
He sometimes wondered what they would think if he told them he was not, in fact, an American with more authority than they felt anyone not born in the United Kingdom deserved, but a man from another planet, far in the future.
 

He suspected he wouldn’t be believed, would probably be dismissed as crazy, or a crank, but that was no more than a lot of people already thought, and in the end, their opinion didn’t matter.
 

They could think whatever they wanted about him, the only opinions that mattered to him were those of his team, and his Commander in Chief. As long as they had confidence in his abilities, he could let others’ resentment roll off him and get on with his job. Right now, he had hostile aliens to deal with.
