Under Jack’s leadership, aside from policing the Rift and whatever came through it, Torchwood Three’s main task was to help aliens wherever possible rather than exploiting them the way Torchwood One had by taking their technology and subjecting the beings themselves to experimentation. There were limits, however.

Peaceful sentient species were welcomed and assisted, harmless creatures were cared for, but not all new arrivals fell into those two categories. There were hostile, warlike races in the universe bent on conquest, or slavery. There were alien criminal gangs, thieves and drug dealers, looking to make a profit. There were dangerous predators, and creatures so toxic to earth lifeforms that the only possible course of action was to kill them immediately. None of the team enjoyed doing that; it wasn’t the animals’ fault that they posed such a danger, but such threats had to be eliminated.

“I know I hit it, but I think I only winged it,” Ianto said, helping Jack back to his feet.

“Which way did it go?”

Ianto pointed towards a narrow alleyway between two old warehouses. “Down there.”

“We’d better get after it. Can’t let it get away.”

A velociraptor loose in Cardiff; what could be worse?
