A/N: Triple drabble.
Bikky was struggling, trying to come up with something he could take to school for show and tell. He already knew he wouldn’t be allowed to take his foster father’s handcuffs, and definitely not his gun. As for Ryo’s taser, that had been out of bounds since Bikky had snuck it into his bag and taken it to summer camp. Ryo had NOT been impressed by that when he’d found out. But what did that leave? Bikky wanted to take something that would make an impression on his classmates. Something really cool.
He was hanging out in Ryo’s bedroom as his foster father put the laundry away, talking about school stuff, because unlike his dad, who’d always been too busy or too tired, when he’d even been there, Ryo was always interested to hear about his day.
“What’s in that box?” he asked, as Ryo was putting his socks away in his dresser drawer. Bikky had seen it before, but he’d somehow never gotten around to asking.
“Oh, my commendations.”
“What’s a commendation?”
“It’s like a medal awarded by the police department.”
“You have medals? Can I see?”
Ryo laughed. “If you like.” Picking up the box, Ryo opened it to show two medals. “This one’s the Medal for Valor, and this one’s the Police Combat Cross. I should have them pinned to my dress uniform, but I haven’t needed to wear it since I got these two, so I’ve never gotten around to it.”
“Wow! What did you get them for?”
After Ryo had explained, Bikky asked hesitantly, “Could I take them to school for show and tell? I’d be really careful with them!” Then he shook his head. “No, maybe I should take YOU to show and tell, so everyone can see what a real hero looks like.”
