A/N: Double drabble.
Transitioning from uniformed patrol officer to plainclothes detective had been a far steeper learning curve than Ryo had been expecting, and he’d experienced a few wobbles, mostly due to doubting his own abilities. Then again, his first case had been a drugs related homicide, really not the kind of thing he’d expected to be investigating as a rookie detective. It had tested him in ways he never could have imagined, and in doing so, had completely changed his life.
He didn’t regret any of it.
As tough as that first case had been, it had made him a better cop, and a better man. He’d found his feet quickly, learned the ropes fast, because he’d had no choice; there’d been too much at stake, not just his new work partner’s life but the boy’s as well.
The boy who had become his foster son and whom he’d later adopted. The man who had become his friend, and then his lover. Where would he be now without those two in his life? Nowhere near as happy as he was, that was for sure.
At the time he’d felt demoralised, out of his depth. Now, he thought perhaps it had been destiny.
