If Lorien was to be believed, and even now Sheridan honestly didn’t know whether or not to believe him, he was the oldest living being in the universe. He was ancient even before the alien races known as the First Ones took the first tentative steps towards sentience, and that kind of longevity was impossible for the human mind to comprehend.
There was no doubt he was indeed old, or that he knew a great deal more about the universe than anyone Sheridan had ever encountered, including Ambassador Kosh. Lorien knew the First Ones personally, the beings so far in advance of humanity and the other races that they kept themselves apart and did not associate.
Sheridan couldn’t blame them for that. Compared to the First Ones, the Vorlons and the Shadows were children, which made the newer races little more than infants. That was a sobering thought; despite all their scientific advances, they were barely out of the cradle. What could the First Ones possibly have to say to humans and their contemporaries?
And yet Lorien, oldest of the old, had not only helped Sheridan at Z’ha’dum, but had returned to Babylon 5 with him, shrouded in age and mystery. Perhaps he would be of some help in the war against the Shadows; Sheridan could only hope so, because as things stood, they were going to need all the help they could get. If nothing else. Lorien could help to locate the last of the First Ones. After that…
