“Should it be doing that?” Ruby asked, watching the strange object dubiously.

 
“Doing what?” The Doctor looked up at her, a wide grin lighting up his face and Ruby couldn’t help grinning back, infected by the enthusiasm and fascination he had for everything.
 

“You know. Ticking.”

 
It was barely audible, just a faint but steady tickticktick.
 

“Oh, that. I have no idea!” Out came the sonic, waved over and around the strange lump in the ground. He looked at the readout and laughed aloud. “It’s not ticking!” If anything, his grin only got wider.  “It’s an egg, and it’s hatching!”
