“You go in to finish the job. If she's still alive, you execute her.”
Anger and fear had overridden common sense, and Jack hated himself a little for that, hated that he was playing into Ianto’s opinion of him, that he was a worse monster than anyone or anything Torchwood encountered. But he’d said it, and in that moment, he’d meant it, even though he knew it was a callous, heartless order to give to a young man whose world was shattering around him. What was down in the Hub was just about the worst threat to the planet Jack could imagine, and if it wasn’t killed, and quickly, in a few months not a single living human would be left anywhere on earth.
Still, Jack wasn’t surprised by Ianto’s refusal, he hadn’t expected anything else. Ianto loved Lisa, was clinging to the woman she used to be, didn’t want to see the truth that was staring him in the face, and in a way, Jack didn’t blame him. Shock and trauma were clouding Ianto’s mind, but he had to be made to see the truth, whatever it took.
Lisa was long gone. The cyberman was all that was left.
