A/N: Triple drabble.
“Dee?” Ryo stared worriedly at his partner, who was slumped across his desk, unmoving. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothin’, ‘cept I’m too frickin’ hot. It’s spring! The heating’s still on, and it’s like eighty degrees outside so it’s over a hundred in here, and how can ANYONE work in this?” Dee raised his head from his folded arms, glaring blearily at his lover. His hair was plastered to his forehead from the sweat that was trickling down his face. Having black hair made everything worse; it soaked up the heat. “I’m officially on strike.”
“It is hot for the time of year,” Ryo agreed, although he didn’t look like he was overheating, having spent the last couple of hours down in the file room, where it was always cooler.
“I swear, if I haveta move again, I’m gonna melt. I think I was better off out there!” Dee tilted his chin in the direction of the window.
“Did you get anything useful from Benny?”
Benny Cavallo was one of Dee’s informants from back when he was in uniform.
“Not sure. Maybe. Lot of rumor and hearsay, but Benny’s usually pretty accurate. He keeps his ear to the ground, says he’s reasonably sure the rumors are legit, so we should probably look into the guy he mentioned. It’s all there.” Dee nodded at his notebook, then dropped his head back onto his folded arms, wishing he was someplace far away from the stifling heat billowing out of the radiators. Even having the blinds down wasn’t keeping the bright sunshine beating down through the squad room’s windows from adding to his misery.
Picking up the notebook, Ryo flicked through the most recent notes Dee had jotted down. “It’s the closest thing we have to a lead.”
“Yeah,” Dee agreed. We’ll check it out. Tomorrow.”
