Slayer senses were supposed to be sharper than those of an ordinary human, especially when it came to detecting vampires, and Buffy’s had been honed to a fine edge, or so she’d believed. She instinctively knew where her opponent was during a fight, could land an accurate blow without needing to see, as she’d proved to Giles multiple times while blindfolded. It was equal parts training and natural, or perhaps supernatural, talent, innate skill, something along those lines.
It was the same for all Slayers, they wouldn’t survive five minutes if that weren’t the case, and yet despite all her training, despite her Slayer senses, she hadn’t known, and she should have. The fact that she’d slept on, oblivious, was frightening. To wake up to the sight of a sketch of her sleeping face, right there on the pillow beside her…
Angel had been there, not just looking through her window, but inside her room, perhaps even sitting on the bed beside her while he sketched her, and her senses hadn’t alerted her. He could have killed her, but instead he’d left the picture, to show her how easily he could get to her. He wanted her to be afraid.
The End
