The ticking of the clock on his nightstand is loud, seeming to echo off the bedroom walls. Though he’s tired, Ryo can’t sleep. It’s ridiculous; he’s always found the steady ticking peaceful and soothing, helping him to drift off, but not tonight.


Rolling over, he stares at the clock in the dimness. Everything feels so wrong, like he shouldn’t be here, even though this is his home, his room, his bed. Where else would he be?


Last night he’d been looking forward to having his parents home; tonight, he knows he’ll never see them again.


He’s never felt so alone.
