It was late, the rest of the team had gone home hours ago, except for Ianto who was asleep in Jack’s bunk. Jack needed less sleep than most people, three or four hours at most, so here he sat, by himself in his office, typing up his daily log.
 

It wasn’t any kind of official document, more like a diary in a way, containing the major events of the day but also more personal things.
 

‘I screwed up badly today. Couldn’t save the space whale, that was bad enough, but Ianto could have been killed, all because I let Rhys get involved, and then, as if that wasn’t bad enough, I caved in when Gwen demanded I let her boyfriend keep his memories! I should have put my foot down, but I just couldn’t deal with another battle of wills, not after everything that happened. I’m amazed Ianto’s even still speaking to me.’

 
Jack sighed and rubbed one hand wearily over his face; it wasn’t physical tiredness but more a bone-deep emotional exhaustion. It was so hard being the head of Torchwood.

 
“Stop brooding and come back to bed. I’m getting cold,” Ianto called from below.
 

Jack smiled.

 
“Yes, Sir!”
