“There’s nothin’ like a real Christmas tree,” Dee said in satisfaction as he settled the big, bushy Douglas Fir in its tub and turned it so the best side was facing out into the room. “This one’s a real beauty. The artificial kind never look right.”
“It does look very festive,” Ryo agreed, setting a box of decorations on the sofa. “Smells good too.”
“Yeah, you don’t get that with a plastic tree. C’mon, let’s get this puppy all prettied up, then we can just kick back and relax for the rest of the evenin’, maybe open a bottle of wine to have with dinner.” Ryo had beef stew simmering in the slow cooker, adding its own delicious aroma to proceedings.
OoOoO
A few weeks later, Dee let out a pained yelp.
“Damn pine needles, they’ve gotten everywhere!” He pulled one out from between his toes. “Doesn’t matter how many times we vacuum the frickin’ floors, I still get stuck with more of ‘em!”
“I know; there were some in our bed when I changed the sheets.”
“Seriously? Right, that’s it; no more real Christmas trees. From now on it’s plastic all the way!”
Ryo smirked. “You say that every year.”
The End
