Ianto had not been having a good day, so when Jack insisted he go home early and nurse his wounds, for once he hadn’t argued. He’d even let his lover drive him back to his flat and get him settled on the sofa with the TV remote and a good book. Satisfied that Ianto had everything he needed for the moment, Jack left, promising to come over later with dinner.

 
Despite being battered and sore, Ianto decided the unscheduled afternoon off made a very pleasant change, and he was soon deep into his book, the hours slipping by unnoticed. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been able to just sit and read, uninterrupted. Maybe he should try to make time in his busy schedule.
 

He was startled back to reality by someone knocking on the door, and he levered himself off the sofa, limping to answer it.
 

“What’s the matter, forget your… Rhi! I wasn’t expecting you.”
 

Rhiannon stared at her brother in horror. “What on earth happened to you?”
 

Ianto reflexively touched his black eye. “It’s nothing. Occupational hazard.”
 

“But you work for the tourist board!”
 

“Right. Some people really don’t like being told off for dropping litter.”
