Summary: Nosy is curious about how it can understand human speech.

Nosy the Fluff had come from a world where it, and its fellow Fluffs, had communicated with each other largely by means of body language and modulated hums.
 

Then, one day, when investigating a strange shimmering in the air, it had found itself ripped away from all that was familiar and dumped in a place it didn’t know. It had been all alone, no other Fluffs around, although it had found some small degree of companionship among a group of furry creatures with legs.

 
When it had met its first human, the youngster had talked to it in a language it had never heard before, and yet Nosy had found it could understand the meaning behind the unfamiliar words. It had been very strange.

 
Since then, it had found a home among humans, and had learned to communicate with them well enough to ask why it could understand their speech.

 
As always, Ianto was very willing to explain.
 

“We think you have what we call empathic abilities. You can sense our emotions, how we feel, and maybe you have other psychic powers too.”

 
“Hum?”

 
“Perhaps you can read our thoughts as well as our emotions. Either way, you’re very clever.”
