As every doting parent knows, a good camera is an essential piece of equipment. There are always new events in a child’s life to be lovingly documented, from baby’s first smile, first tooth, or first step, to sports days, and school plays.

 
“Dad!” Meriel complained, trying to hide. “Put the camera away!”
 

“Nope, can’t. Our little girl is so grown up, getting ready for her first date!”
 

“It’s not a date, a bunch of us are going to the school dance together, and if you absolutely had to take pictures you could have at least waited until I’ve done my make-up and hair!”

 
Fifteen-year-old Meriel had made the tactical mistake of leaving her room in her bathrobe, her face still slathered in a cleansing mask, to ask her Tad’s advice on which dress she should wear.
 

“Got to have before and after pictures,” her dad insisted, beaming at her.
 

“You should have never bought him that camera, Taddy! He’s a menace!”
 

“He’s a proud parent, sweetheart. A bit over-enthusiastic, I know, but that’s not exactly news, is it?”
 

“I suppose not, but does he have to take pictures when I look such a sight?”
 

“You’ll always be beautiful to us.”
