A/N: Double drabble.
 


 
Dee was proud of his teeth; they were strong, white, and straight. Despite being a smoker, he never had to feel ashamed or embarrassed when he smiled. A lot of it was good genes, at least he’d inherited that from his unknown birthparents, but the rest was all his own work; proper dental hygiene was key, he flossed every day, and he went for a check-up, clean and polish every three months, without fail.

 
At twenty-seven he still only had one filling, and that had been due to the tooth being cracked during a fight.
 

The dentist tutted. “This tooth will have to come out.”
 

“Wha’ y’me ow?” It was notoriously difficult to speak with one’s mouth open, but dentists were practised interpreters.

 
“I told you when your wisdom teeth were first coming through that the bottom ones were impacted. Now you’ve got a pocket of decay back there; the pain will only get worse. I’d better take both out at the same time, before the other one starts causing trouble as well.”
 

“M’teef!”
 

“You don’t need those two, you’ll thank me later.”
 

As she readied her instruments, Dee shut his eyes. He’d never been scared of dentists until now.
