“Man, look at this fireplace!” Dee dumped his bag just inside the cabin he and Ryo were renting for a long weekend away and went to take a closer look. “I can see it now; you and me, warm and cosy, lyin’ in front of a roarin’ log fire, toastin’ marshmallows over the flames while the wind’s howlin’ outside. It’s gonna be awesome!”

 
Ryo laughed. “You make it sound like we’re in the wilderness in the middle of winter!” It was late summer, and the weather was still hot during the day, although the nights were starting to get cooler. “We might not even need a fire.”

 
“Aw, come on, babe! Only time we get to enjoy one is when we’re campin’. There’s a massive log pile outside so we wouldn’t even haveta go lookin’ for firewood. We’d be crazy to pass up the chance!”
 

“Alright, we’ll light the fire tonight if it’ll make you happy.”
 

“Yes!” Dee punched the air.
 

That evening they toasted bread over the flames since they hadn’t brought any marshmallows with them, and later made love in the firelight. Dee thought it was sheer luxury.

 
Until he had to sweep out the ashes next morning.
