Summary: For once, earth’s ambassadors to the stars receive a warm reception.

They’d grown used to arriving on other planets and having to battle their way through bureaucratic red tape before being made to practically jump through hoops in order to secure meetings with government ministers or the local dignitaries, so Jack and Ianto hadn’t been expecting this.
 

Their ship was granted priority clearance to land at the planet’s biggest spaceport, and when they opened the airlock, it was to a resounding fanfare. At a safe distance from the ship crowds were gathered behind hastily erected barriers, a band was playing, and a number of very extravagantly dressed individuals awaited them at the far end of an intricately woven, multicoloured rug that was being rolled out by liveried servants to the base of the stairs.
 

The servants stepped aside, bowing, gesturing for them to proceed towards the reception committee.
 

With Nosy slinking along behind them, they made their way along the carpet. The dignitaries clasped all four hands and bowed to each of them in turn.
 

“Honoured Ambassadors, we bid you welcome to Pliff,” the tallest of the three said. “I am King Vyan, and these are my husband and wife, Merre and Avra.”
 

Jack and Ianto bowed. “The honour is ours.”
