“I’m bored!” whined Bikky.

 
It was Saturday, and he’d been looking forward to the weekend, hoping to play basketball with his friends, or at least go rollerblading with Carol, but he’d woken that morning to strong winds and torrential rain.
 

Ryo looked up from the book he was reading. “How can you be bored?” He’d been looking forward to Saturday as well, hoping for a chance to unwind. He’d even gotten all the cleaning and laundry out of the way the night before so he wouldn’t have chores hanging over him, making him feel guilty for wanting to take a whole day for himself.

 
Bikky stared at his foster father as if he didn’t understand the question. “There’s nothing to do!”
 

“I was never bored when I was your age. Why don’t you read a book?”

 
“I don’t want to read; I want to DO something!” Bikky paced restlessly to the window, scowled out at the weather, and stomped his way back.

 
Sighing, Ryo set aside his book; so much for getting a day to himself.
 

“Okay then, how about we bake some cookies?”
 

Bikky’s eyes went wide. “Really? I never baked anything before!”
 

“Then it’s about time you learned.”
