Engrossed in what he was doing down in the archives, Ianto had completely lost track of time. When he finally paused long enough to realise he was hungry, and checked his watch, he discovered it was past ten at night and he’d been down there for a good seven hours.

He was a little surprised that no one had contacted him over the comms, demanding coffee, or help with something, but he shrugged it off, grabbed his jacket, and made his way upstairs.

The main Hub was set to nighttime mode, illuminated only by the dim red of the emergency lighting, but there was a faint glow coming from Jack’s office through the drawn blinds, so Ianto headed up to see if Jack needed anything before he left.

As he approached the door, he could hear soft music playing, Vera Lynn singing We’ll Meet Again. Jack had his back to the door, and was quietly singing along, oblivious to Ianto’s presence, and Ianto suddenly felt he was intruding on a private moment. That’s when he realised it was Remembrance Day. Jack clearly believed he was alone in the Hub.

Silently Ianto slipped back out and left Jack to his memories.

That's lovely and appropriate for Remembrance Day. It's also apropos that President Biden just gave the Medal of Honor to an 81-year-old Vietnam War Veteran. I always wonder why it takes so long to give these brave men and women their medals. It pisses me off.

You're welcome. It was really good.

I don't understand why the vet had to wait so long. At his age it could have been a posthumous award.
