“Ryo! Get up here!” Dee yelled.

 
His lover was below deck in the galley of their cabin cruiser, fixing lunch, but at Dee’s shout, he came running.
 

“What’s up?”
 

Dee didn’t turn; he was at the starboard rail, staring out across the water. “Look!”

 
Coming the rest of the way onto the deck, Ryo made his way to his partner’s side.
 

“Okay, I’m looking. What am I supposed to…” He trailed off as he saw what Dee was pointing at. Even as they watched, a massive humpback whale surfaced no more than fifty feet off their starboard bow, rearing out of the ocean only to crash back down, causing a tremendous splash. The waves it created made the boat rock and Ryo gripped the rail tight. “Oh wow!” he gasped. “I wish I had my camera! I’ve never seen one this close!”

 
Dee had his phone clutched in one hand, trying to hold it steady against the rocking as the whale breached again, closer still. This time a gust of wind caught the spray and blew it in their direction.
 

“Man, what a sight!” Dee wiped his face with his forearm.
 

“It’s magnificent!”
 

“The guys are never gonna believe this!”
