Going to the zoo was supposed to be a relaxing experience, wandering around, looking at the animals, taking photographs, indulging in too much ice-cream, and not even thinking about work. And the first couple of hours had indeed been as relaxing and enjoyable as Dee and Ryo could have wished, right up until the announcement had come over the Tannoy system that one of the zoo’s animals had escaped its enclosure and was now on the loose, whereabouts currently unknown.
Because they were cops, they’d somehow managed to get roped into helping find the escapee. Dee still wasn’t quite sure how that had happened, although he suspected his partner might have volunteered their assistance when he wasn’t looking. Still, he figured the sooner the critter was rounded up, the sooner they could get back to enjoying their day off.
“Least it’s just a wallaby, not a lion or a tiger,” he pointed out, trying to make the best of the situation. “Or a snake. That would be the worst. Hard to find, easy to overlook…”
“Wallabies aren’t exactly harmless though. They can be temperamental, and they kick.”
Dee gave that careful consideration. “So we’ll keep clear of the kicking end.”
The End
