It seemed to Ryo as if one minute he’d been eagerly awaiting his parents’ return home from their buying trip, just in time to celebrate Christmas together as a family, and the next they were gone, never coming home again. Just like that, the bottom had fallen out of his world.
How could they be gone? He’d only spoken to them on the phone a couple of days ago, happily discussing Christmas plans, when to expect them home, and whether they needed to pick anything up on the way. Ryo had wanted to get a taxi out to the airport to meet them, but his parents had said there was no point. Holiday traffic would make the journey a nightmare, and besides, he’d be in school when their plane was due to land. They didn’t want him interrupting his studies.
A chill ran down his spine as he realised he’d probably been chatting with his friends around the time his parents were dying in a hail of bullets. He hadn’t known, COULDN’T have known, but he felt guilty all the same. How could he have been so happy while they were suffering?
His life would never be the same again.
The End
