A/N: Double drabble.

This was not the way JJ had expected things to go. He’d been so sure, so full of hope and dreams, and it hurt so much, knowing that Dee and Ryo were together now. It broke his heart that after all the years he’d invested in his Mister Perfect, keeping himself free and available for the time when Dee would finally realise the love of his life was right there in front of him, it had all been for nothing.

He’d loved Dee from practically the moment they’d met at the police academy, and he’d tried so hard to be whatever Dee needed him to be, showering him with attention, affection, and thoughtfully chosen gifts. He’d asked Dee out on countless dates to the best restaurants and clubs in the city, all to no avail.

He could have been perfect for Dee, just as Dee was already perfect for him, would have moved heaven and earth to make the man of his dreams happy, but Dee had only ever pushed him away, rebuffing his advances, turning down dates, refusing to accept the gifts. All JJ could think now was ‘I only wanted to love you; why wouldn’t you let me?’
